3. Report from the Parish Pastoral Council Anthony Palmer presented the PPC report. The report is published together with reports from each of the Parish groups in folders to be placed in the narthex of the Parish Church and at the Chapel of Ease in Yatton.
He thanked members of the current PPC for their hard work in their individual areas of responsibility and for their support in general to the work of the PPC over the year; representatives of the Parish groups for providing their reports and made special mention of the help received from Mary Bradley, Parish Secretary in publishing the reports and organising the AGM.
4. Reports from the Finance Committee Bill Hampton presented the annual Parish financial account and the financial account for the Grey Friars Hall.
Copies of the accounts will be placed in the narthex of the Parish Church and at the Chapel of Ease in Yatton.
Bill described the financial gift to Parish last year but warned that the Parish could not use the gift to subsidise the running costs of the Parish. When the gift was taken from the annual account the Parish income was shown barely to cover expenses. In real terms income was falling.
Bill urged parishioners to look again at their offerings to the Parish and in particular to consider ‘Gift-aid’ in order to recover the income tax already paid to the Revenue on the donation. He said that many people are surprised to learn that they pay income tax on quite small amounts of savings even if they are not in paid employment. This tax could come to the Parish along with their donation instead of going to the Inland Revenue.
Gift-aid forms are available in the narthex of the Parish Church and at the Chapel of Ease in Yatton. Alternatively parishioners may speak to Bill Hampton at Clevedon or Anthony Palmer at Yatton.
5. Any other business There was a discussion over the removal of the free school transport service for children to Catholic Schools. The consensus was that there should be an open Parish meeting to agree how we should respond next.
The Chairman said that the PPC would organise the meeting.
The AGM asked that if possible the church organ should be renovated and kept. Maintenance group to note.
6. Closing Prayer The meeting closed with a prayer at 12:30
